This is due to the presence of myristicin substance in it which is a narcotic and is harmful for health in excessive quantities.
Licorice: Licorice is another taste enhancer often used in curries. Even though it is beneficial for health in small amounts, when taken in excessive quantity it can cause high blood pressure, disturbance in the menstrual cycle, headache, erectile dysfunction, congestive heart failure etc. Hence it is very much recommended to use these spices in a small amount.
Garam masala: Garam masala is one of the most common spices used in Indian cuisine. It is used in almost every vegetable curry that is cooked. Well, it is good for health in small quantities, but when taken in excess, it may result in vomiting, diarrhea, rashes etc. One should take into consideration to have garam masala in their meal only once a day.
Red chilly: Red chilly is another extensively used spice in different cuisine. Excessive red chilly when consumed causes cramps, painful diarrhea, abdominal pain and burning sensation in the gut. Thus a limited quantity of red chilly should be consumed in your meal.
Apart from these, there are spices you should avoid during pregnancy like; fenugreek excess of which may cause retardation in baby, peppermint and asafetida may result in miscarriage and garlic as it causes heartburn and excessive bleeding.
